ME FIRST AND THE GIMME GIMMES - THE GAELIC CLUB 16th OCTOBER 2003

Met up with Erin at about 6pm out the front of The Gaelic Club, she was soon followed by Mike and then Kim. Doors didn't open til 8pm so Mike and Erin went for a beer and some food, leaving me playing with my yo-yo and Kim trying to pretend she didn't know the crazy yo-yo girl. We saw Warren from the Vandals, who was replacing Jake Jackson (Chris Shiflett) as he went inside as well as Lindsay and Jay from Frenzal Rhomb, playing as the first band "The Self Righteous Brothers". Finally 8pm came around and Sarah, Mark and Pete arrived, scamming their way very nicely to the front of the line. We were the first people in there and headed straight for the merch, fuck that shit was expensive!! I had the hardest decision of my life, the $50 shot glasses or the $40 zippo, smoking and drinking 2 of my lifes passions. I went with the zippo in the end. Fucking not enough money *grumble grumble*. After making our purchases Kim, Erin and I headed straight for the barrier, front and centre baby!! The Righteous Brothers opened the night and where quite good, some amusing lyrics and the music wasn't that bad either, better then their Frenzal Counterparts me thinks. The next act where Gazonga Attack, what a oad of shit that was, an all chick band who had synchronized leaning and prolly thought they were cool because they swore and sung and sex. Tools, Kim, Erin adn I were obviously not enjoying this and they noticed even mentioning us a few times for not smiling and dancing, meh get fucked you suck go home. Next up we THE MIGHTY GIMME GIMMES!!! Cameras ready, check. Phone ready, check. LETS ROCK! The opened with their current single "I believe I can fly", from there is was a blur of punk joy

Don't Cry For Me Argentina
Somewhere over the Rainbow
Hello
Country Roads
Stairway to Heaven
My Boyfriends Back
Rainbow Connection
All My Lovin'
Tomorrow
Leaving On A Jet
Nobody Does It Better
Rocket Man
Nothing compares to you

And thats all I can remember at this point, but seeing as my adrenalin is pumping through the roof I thinks that be understandable. I can't even type properly, and I think I will be singing covers for the months to come, much to the anger of my housemate. Oh Oh Oh! The crowd started to sing Waltzing Matilda much to the bands amusement and they even tried to play along with us, I think one of the comments made was "What? Isn't that your national ass-raping anthem". We around back after the show and met Fat Mike and Joey Cape, a lyric sheet that I nabbed off the stage was signed by them both and is currently stuck up on a wall in my kitchen, YAYAYAY. But no thanks to those fucken tools in the yellow shirts who decided that they had to block the guys from anyone else who may have wanted a photo with them just because they came from Qld, fucking wankas . Other than that it was a fucking tops night!

If you haven't seen these guys perform yet you really need to, it is a high energy and fun entertaining show. GIMME GIMME GIMME!
